Digital Security Mentor

FemPeaceEA: We’re currently looking for feminist Digital Security Mentors for our East African Feminist Peace Network Project – the contract will be task based.

The feminist organizations to be mentored are based in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda; therefore, mentors should have geographical expertise and experience working within these countries.

The project aims to strengthen grassroots feminist organizations in East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Uganda) through capacity and network building to enhance women’s full and meaningful participation in conflict prevention and peacebuilding processes. The project is implemented in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Education and Professional Background?  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science  or related field. 
  • Relevant work experience in Crisis and Risk Communication. 
  • Relevant work experience in Countering Gendered Disinformation, Online Gender Based Violence (OGBV) and Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV)

Knowledge and Understanding 

  • A deep understanding of African feminist movements, digital rights, data protection, right to privacy, digital security, data privacy laws and access to information, specifically in the East African context (Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya).
  • The person we are looking for has to identify as an African feminist. 

Primary Duties

Support and strengthen grassroots feminist organizations within the FemPeaceEA Network by enhancing their:

  • Digital security, safety, and privacy practices through training.
  • Cybersecurity awareness and digital rights.
  • Supporting organizations in developing organisational protocols for digital security and privacy protection.

As the Digital Security Mentor, you  will work closely with our FemPeaceEA team in Uganda and Berlin. 

This is a time-limited task-oriented engagement starting in September 2025 (3 – 6 month mentorship program). We only accept applications from Womxn.
