Annual report 2023

The r0g_agency 2023 Annual Report highlights a decade of impactful work in promoting open culture, peacebuilding, and innovation across multiple regions, including Cameroon, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.

Throughout the year, r0g_agency continued to advance its mission through projects like #ASKnet, #defyhatenow, and #FemPeaceEA, focusing on open technology, open knowledge, and community-driven peacebuilding initiatives.

The organization celebrated its 10th anniversary with a series of events, including an interactive exhibition and garden party in Berlin, showcasing its achievements and strengthening connections within its global community. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, gender equality, and grassroots collaboration, r0g_agency remains committed to empowering communities and countering hate speech, both online and offline.

#r0g_10

September 2023 marked a major milestone for r0g_agency as it celebrated its 10th anniversary. Founded in 2013 in Berlin, the organization has grown from coworking spaces to a hub for open culture and transformation. To mark the occasion, an online campaign was launched to highlight the decade of impact, and an in-person exhibition and garden party were hosted at the Berlin offices, bringing together friends, partners, and team members to celebrate.

#ASKnet
(Access to Skills and Knowledge Network)

The project in 2023 evolved into a legally registered consortium in South Sudan, expanding its network to include youth-led media and innovation organizations across Uganda and South Sudan.

Through over 20 training sessions, 50 events, and 30 media projects, #ASKnet empowered communities by addressing digital safety, feminist advocacy, and cultural diversity, while fostering peacebuilding and innovation.

The project also launched a refined #ASKtraining platform with 33 modules and 104 learning resources, and hosted the #ASKSummit2023 in Uganda, strengthening collaboration and showcasing the network's impact in creating inclusive spaces for tech and media.

#defyhatenow Cameroon

in 2023, the initiative focused on addressing online and offline conflicts through media and information literacy, particularly in the context of the Anglophone conflict.

The initiative engaged youth, community leaders, and civil society to promote respectful public discourse and social cohesion. Activities included sensitization campaigns in schools, workshops on open-source hardware, and digital inclusion efforts, such as the "Embrace Equity for a #HateFreeCameroon" campaign during Women’s Day.

These efforts and more aimed to empower communities to counter hate speech and mis/disinformation.
