Digital Media Communication and Advocacy Mentor

FemPeaceEA: We’re currently looking for three feminist Digital Media Communication and Advocacy Mentors for our East African Feminist Peace Network Project – the contract will be task based.

Information About the Project

The feminist organizations to be mentored are based in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda; therefore, mentors are expected to have  geographical expertise and experience working within these countries.

The project aims to strengthen grassroot feminist organizations in East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda) through capacity and network building to enhance women’s full and meaningful participation in conflict prevention and peacebuilding processes. The project is implemented in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Education and Professional Background  

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communication, Journalism or similar fields. 
  • At least 2-5 years of relevant work experience on advocacy, campaign and digital storytelling. 
  • Relevant work experience on Crisis communication. 
  • Relevant work experience countering Gendered disinformation, Online Gender based violence (OGBV) and Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV)

Knowledge and Understanding 

  • A deep understanding of African feminist movements, human rights, and social justice issues, especially in the East African context (Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya).
  • Identify as an African feminist and have priorly worked in the african feminist spaces. 

Primary Duties

Support and strengthen grassroots feminist organizations within the FemPeaceEA Network by enhancing their:

  • Media and communication strategies, ensuring alignment with their organizational objectives, vision, and mission.
  • Organizational advocacy, digital storytelling, and campaign strategies, ensuring clearly defined goals and approaches.
  • Capacity to collaborate with other feminist organizations (within and beyond the FemPeaceEA Network) by conducting a thorough assessment to improve their advocacy plans and approaches, and to foster solidarity and collective advocacy efforts.

As the Digital Media Communication and Advocacy Mentor, you will work closely with our FemPeaceEA team in Uganda and Berlin. 

This is a time-limited task-oriented engagement, starting June 1st, 2025 – (3 – 6 month mentorship program). We only accept applications from Womxn.
