r0g_agency new year greeting 2025
Dear friends and colleagues, As a turbulent political year is coming to an end – greater concerns loom for 2025. Even though well established means and principled ideals seem to be at threat – we stand together in an ever widening community of changemakers, stronger to do the things we passionately believe in – to have an impact for more positive change.
We gain strength from working with a great team, amazing partners and wonderful friends in order to achieve our common goal of a more just place for all of us.

Yours,

Reflecting on the year 2024, we are proud of the strides we’ve made, particularly in addressing two main issues—gender-based violence (GBV) and advancing inclusion, both pillars of peacebuilding and social justice.
Advancing the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence
In 2024, we remained committed to addressing gender-based violence (GBV). Violence against women and girls continues to be a pervasive issue, and as the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV concluded, we reflected on the urgency of this ongoing struggle. In Kenya, rising femicide and violence sparked public protests demanding justice and stronger protections. In Ethiopia, the northern conflict intensified GBV, with sexual violence used as a weapon of war. In Cameroon, sexual violence against young girls and intimate partner violence persist, highlighting the multifaceted nature of GBV.
This year, we released the #defyhatenow GBV Guide, offering tools to combat GBV through education, empathy, and action. While it features case studies from Cameroon, it can be adapted globally to inspire awareness and collective action toward a safer, more equitable society.
We also deepened our commitment to empowering women and addressing intersectional inequalities through our projects, Young Women Media and Information Literacy (#YoMIL) in The Gambia along with #ASKnet and the East Africa Feminist Peace Network (#FemPeaceEA) in Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Kenya.
Inclusion has been a cornerstone of our work this year. At this year’s #peacejam, we amplified the voices of marginalised groups with a conversation around “#InclusivePeace: Strengthening Ability in Peacebuilding.” This event reinforced our belief that peacebuilding cannot succeed unless everyone’s voice is considered.
At the 2024 Build Peace Conference in Manila, we took this message further by showcasing BrailleRap, a community-accessible Braille embosser (printer)—a digitally controlled machine helping to lower the barrier for visually impaired peacebuilders. During the workshop, our team demonstrated and showed participants how to build and maintain a BrailleRap device. They also took the opportunity to showcase the crucial need for inclusion of disabled persons in conflict mitigation, providing an opportunity to strengthen a growing network of inclusive peacebuilding makers.
Looking Ahead
As we step into 2025, we carry forward our commitment to building bridges, helping create networks and empowering communities. We believe in the power of collective action, and with your continued support, we will keep striving for a more inclusive future.
Thank you for being an integral part of this journey. We wish you a peaceful holiday season and an inspiring start to a new year filled with possibilities.
